Acetate salt

The acetate salt form of a peptide, made by exchanging the trifluoroacetate counter-ion left by synthesis and purification.

Last reviewed · Editorial policy

An acetate salt carries acetate (CH3COO−) as the counter-ion to the peptide's positive charges. It is prepared from the trifluoroacetate form by ion exchange or by purification with acetic acid in the mobile phase.

Acetate is volatile in part during lyophilisation, so the acetate content of a lot can vary, and it is reported where net peptide content matters.
