A stock is made from a whole vial or a weighed amount, typically at ten to a hundred times the highest working concentration, and divided into single-use aliquots for freezing. Working solutions are diluted from it on the day of use by C1V1 = C2V2.
An error in the stock's concentration carries into every working solution made from it, so a stock is checked by absorbance where the sequence allows.
